Potosí ist die höchst gelegene Grosstadt der Welt (4060 m.ü.M.) und war in der Kolonialzeit sehr reich. Der Grund dafür versteckt sich in diesem Berg: Silber, Gold, Kupfer und was man sich sonst noch so wünscht, wird da heute noch unter Schwerstarbeit aus dem Berg gesprengt und abtransportiert.
Potosi is the world highest big city (4060 m.a.s.l.) and it was very rich during the colonial time. The reason for that is hidden in the mountain: Silver, gold, copper and a lot more diffrent minerals. The work is hard and there is no equipment!
Bevor wir uns in die Mine wagten, hiess es aber noch einkaufen: Für die Minenarbeiter besorgten wir uns Cocablätter, Cola und Dynamit. Das kann man da einfach so in jedem Laden kaufen...!!!
Before we entered the mines we had to buy some presents for the miners. We bought Cocaleafs, Cola and dynamite!!! Yes, you can buy it just at the store next door...!!!

Die Arbeitsbedingungen in den Minen sind extrem schlecht. Die meisten arbeiten noch völlig ohne Elektrizität. Ausserdem hat es Knaben, welche so ab ca. 12 Jahren statt Schule Minenarbeit leisten. Mit solchen Wägelchen, welche selbst schon 700 kg wiegen, werden jeweils etwa 1 bis 2 Tonnen Material ans Tageslicht befördert.The working conditiones are really bad. There are kids starting work by the age of 12 instead of going to school. With this railtrucks, they weight about 700 kg and are filled with 1-2 tonnes of rocks, the minerals come out of the mountiain.
Die Luft in der Mine drinn ist nicht wirklich zum Atmen geeignet. Extreme Hitze (bis zu 35 Grad) und verschiedenste Metallstaubpartikel lassen die Arbeiter nach etwa 10 bis 20 Jahren krank werden. Wir hatten einen einfachen Atemschutz an und waren nachher doch ziemlich überrascht, wie viel Staub da aussen dran klebte...
The air in the mines is horrible. It is hot (up to 35 degres) and the toxic dust and air makes the miners sick after 10 to 20 years. We had simple anti toxic masks and were surprised how much dust was on it when we got out.
Das hier ist der Gott der Minenarbeiter, zuständig für alles, was sich unter der Erde abspielt. Ihm wird jährlich ein grosses Fest mit viel Alkohol und Tanz gewidmet. Dazu gehören auch die reichen Gaben an Cocablättern.
This is the miners god, responsible for everything under the earth. Every year they have a festival for him and they offer him cocaleaves, tabac, alcohol and other things.
In Uyuni, im Süden Boliviens, machten wir eine dreitägige Jeeptour.Erste Sehenswürdigkeit war der rostige Cementerio de los trenes. Sämtliche alten Züge wurden hier neben die Geleise gestellt und durch neue ersetzt...
In Uyuni, in the south of Bolivia, we went on a three day 4x4 tour.
The first sight was the Cementerio de los trenes. All the old trains were here placed on the holding track and repalced with new ones....
Die Hauptatraktion ist der Salar de Uyuni, die grösste Salzwüste der Welt. Weil es am Tag zuvor geregnet hat, war ein Teil mit ca. 10 cm Wasser bedeckt.
The main attraction was the Salar de Uyuni, the biggest Saltdessert of the world. Because it was raining the day before we had about 10cm of water and beautifull refleciones.
Salzgewinnung ist relativ einfach - die Salzschicht ist etwa 3 bis 4 Meter dick!Producing salt is relatively easy - the saltlayer is about 3 to 4 meters thick!
Mitten in der Salzwüste befindet sich die Isla de los pescadores. Statt Fischer trafen wir allerdings nur tausende von Riesenkakteen an...

Übernachtet haben wir dann in einem Haus, welches ebenfalls total aus Salz gebaut ist. So auch die Tische, Stühle, Betten,... We slept in a house built of salt. Absoluty everything, tables, chairs, beds,...
Der folgende Tag führte uns durch Sandwüsten...The next day we drove through a big sanddessert...
... vorbei an Lagunen, gefüllt mit Flamingos......passing lagunas filled with flamingos...
... ein Andenfuchs interessierte sich für unsere Essensreste...
... an Andenfox was interested in our food rests....
... die Vicuñas liessen sich überhaupt nicht stören... ... and the Vicuñas didn´t bother...
... schliesslich landeten wir bei der Laguna Colorada. Der Wind bliess uns fast weg, dafür sorgte er auch für die Wasserumwälzung und liess so den See rot werden.... by the end of the day we got to the Laguna Colorada. The wind was blowing us almost away, but because of the wind the lake is red!!!
Am letzten Tourtag besuchten wir Geysire...On the last tourday we visited geyser...
... badeten im heissen Thermalwasser... ...bathed in hot thermalwater...
... besuchten die Laguna verde......went to the Laguna verde...
... sahen skurille Steingebilde (ein Kookaburra, nicht?)... ...saw bizarre stoneformations (like a kookaburra, and others)...
... und kamen dann auf gefährlichen, lamaüberfüllten Strassen wieder zurück nach Uyuni. (Total 1000km)
...and went over the dangerous, lama filled road back to Uyuni. (total 1000km)
Zwei Tage später war in Tupiza, inmitten roter Berge, unser Triathlon angesagt: Mountainbiking, Reiten und Büssli fahren (wobei vor allem Letzteres extrem anstrengend war...) Two days later we where in the red mountains of Tupiza. We went on a triathlon with: Mountainbiking, riding a horse and riding in a minivan.
Chrusus liebes Rössli nabens Ballo wurde dann einfach noch für Fotozwecke missbraucht.Chrusus horse Ballo was missused for pictures.
Die Grenze zu Argentinien am nächsten Tag bot einige lustige Anblicke: Da wir am Sonntag Morgen um 08.00 Uhr an der Grenze waren, trafen wir auf etliche alkoholisierte Argentinier, welche im günstigen Bolivien im Ausgang waren und dann morgens mühsam zurück über die Grenze nach Hause torkelten...
On the border to Argentina the next day we saw a lot of drunk argentiniens crossing the border going home. It was sunday morning at 8. They all have been out in Bolivia because it is cheaper.
Die Tatsache, dass Ushuaia, die südlichste Stadt Südamerikas, nur 5121 km entfernt liegt, stimmte uns optimistisch...
The fact that Ushuaia (the most southern city of Southamerika) is only 5121 km away, is pacifying...
