Perito Moreno bis fast ans Ende der Welt

Taraaaa, dies sind die beiden Oesterreicher, welche uns an Weihnachten mit einem Kaertchen und Schoggi beglueckt haben. In El Chalten haben wir sie wieder getroffen und auf dem Cerro Torres und Fitz Roy Trek haben sie uns staendig verfolgt.

Here we have the two austrians who gave us the only christmas card. We met them again in El Chalten and on the Cerro Torres and Fitz Roy trek they followed us all the time...

... und so haben wir dann mit Kathi und Thomas zusammen in Calafate dieses bombige Auto gemietet und sind losgefahren...

... and so we rented a car in Calafate together and started driving...

Das Ziel war dieser wirklich bombige Gletscher: Perito Moreno, einer der wenigen noch wachsenden Gletscher der Welt!

Our goal was the Perito Moreno glacier, one of the only ones in the world still growing!!

Trotz des nicht gerade tollen Wetters hat uns dieses Riesending extrem beeindruckt. Zwar ist kein megagrosser Brocken ins Wasser geplumpst, aber so ein paar kleine haben auch schon lauten Krach gemacht.

The weather wasn't that great but this massiv mass of ice was impressive. The glacier growes two meters a day in length and so there are big and small junks of ice falling into the water. And there is an indescriable noise of cracking ice.

Sobald wir dann wieder weg waren von den Bergen, schien die Sonne froehlich vom Himmel und es war sogar angenehm warm. Scheint hier allgemein ein bisschen so zu sein...

As soon as we left the mountains a little bit, the sun was shining and it was warm!!

Inmitten friedlich weidender Schafherden haben wir dann einen eher unoffiziellen Campingplatz neben einem Restaurant gefunden und unser Fleisch und Gemuese auf den Grill geworfen. Hier heisst das nicht BBQ, sondern Asado. Ist aber auch lecker.

In the middle of grazing sheep heards we camped on a more or less inofficial Campground next to a restaurant and started a bbq with vegies and meat. Here a bbq is called asado.

Nein, die Schafe leben noch!

Von Puerto Natales (Chile) aus ging's dann wieder ab in die Wildnis. Der Torres del Paine Nationalpark sah schon beim Hinfahren toll aus. Geplant war ein 7tages-Trekk (fast) rund ums Torres del Paine-Zentralmassiv.

From Puerto Natales (Chile) we started an other trek in the wilderness of Patagonia. The NP Torres del Paine looked already great form far away on the way to get there. We planed to do a 7 day trek almost around the Torres del Paine mountains.

Gleich am ersten Tag machten wir uns auf den Weg zu den Namensgebern des Parkes, welche wir dann am naechsten Morgen um etwa 6 Uhr bei eisigem Wind erleuchtet betrachten durften.

On the first day we went to the peaks that gave the name to the park. We were able to see a wonderfull sunrise in the morning at six in freezing cold wind.

Der naechste Campingplatz lag dann inmitten solcher Margritenfelder. Da liess sich auch der schwere Rucksack mit Essen fuer eine Woche etwas vergessen...

The next camp was in the middle of wonderfull flower fields so we were able to forget the heavy backpack with food for a week....

Auf dieser Halbinsel erwartete uns der naechste Campingplatz, aber leider nicht nur der: tausende von Muecken stuerzten sich auf uns, so dass wir beschlossen, gleich noch die naechste Tagesetappe zu laufen.

On this peninsula was the next camp, but the moskitos were so bad that we decided to walk the next day aswell. An extra 4 hours.

Am naechsten Tag ging's ueber den John Garner Pass. Von dort aus hatten wir diesen wunderschoenen Ausblick ueber den Grey Gletscher.

On day 4 we crossed over the John Garner Pass. From the top we had a wonderfull view over the Grey glaacier.

... lange geniessen konnte man den Ausblick aber nicht, der Wind fegte uns fast weg...

...we couldn't enjoy the view for to long, then the wind was cold and blowing us almost away...

Die Essensqualitaet leidet jeweils leider etwas auf solchen Tripps. Hauptsache leicht... Aber ein Tip fuer Oesterreich: Polenta mit Tomatensauce ist super! (Toent gut, nicht?)

The food quality is not the best on trips like that. The main issue: it hase to be light... But a tip for Austria: Polenta with Tomatosauce is wonderfull.

Dafuer hat Baer hier ein Tischchen und zwei Hocker aus Stein erstellt. Und natuerlich die windgeschuetzte Feuerstelle. Ein MUSS in Patagonien.

And here a tabel with chairs out of stones and a wind protected fire place. A must in Patagonia.

Der letzte Campingplatz lag dann am tuerkisfarbigen Lago Pehoe.

Dort war's so heiss, dass Baer sich in den spaerlichen Schatten des Tisches legen musste, weil es da einfach keine Baeume gab...

It was so hot there, that we had to find shade under the table, because there where no trees...

Deshalb musste dann auch noch ein kuehles Bier her, und da machten wir doch tatsaechlich noch eine Entdeckung.... seht ihr den Berg auf dem Buechsli?

That's why we needed a cold beer. while we were drinking we made an intresting find... can you see the mountain on the can?

Mit der Faehre fuhren wir am naechsten Morgen zurueck zur Busstation. Neeeein, nicht ueber diesen Wasserfall...

With the ferry we drove back to the bus station the next morning. Nooo, not over this waterfall...

Zurueck in Puerto Natales betrachteten wir am Abend noch den Sonnenuntergang an der Magellanstrasse...

Back in Puerto Natales we watched the sunset over the strait of Magellan...

... bevor wir dann am naechsten Morgen mit Bus und Schiff Richtung Tierra del Fuego und Ushuaia aufbrachen.

Before we started heading to Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia by bus and ship.

... natuerlich wieder einmal ueber eine Grenze...

... and once more a boarder crossing...
